On 7 July 2025, CHINALUX held its annual “Welcome to Luxembourg” event at BCEE Spuerkeess with great success. This event, aimed at both expatriates and locals, offered valuable insights into Luxembourg’s economic climate, real estate market, pension planning, ICT infrastructure, and taxation landscape. Sponsored by CHINALUX corporate members BCEE Spuerkeess, BDO, CAP4LAB, China Mobile International UK, and LALUX, the event was very well received.

The evening began with an opening speech from Mr. Jacques Bortuzzo, President of CHINALUX, who warmly welcomed guests and shared his vision for the chamber’s continued support of the community. This was followed by a welcome address from Mr. Claude Hirtzig, Head of Retail & Professional Banking at BCEE Spuerkeess. He warmly welcomed all the members and friends at the premises of BCEE Spuerkeess.

H.E. Mr. Ning Hua, Chinese Ambassador to Luxembourg, emphasized the importance of cooperation between China and Luxembourg. We are looking forward to more collaboration in the future.

Dr. William Telkes, Chief Economist at BCEE Spuerkeess, presented an insightful analysis of the Luxembourgish economy and mortgage trends, issues about inflation, explaining key drivers and future expectations. He noted that facing an ever-unpredictable economic landscape, market shall be well prepared.

Next, Mrs. Claudia Halmes-Coumont, Director of Assurances-Vie at LALUX, shared practical guidance on Luxembourg’s second and third pillar pension schemes, helping attendees plan for their financial future.

The audience also gained valuable perspectives on technology and connectivity. Mr. Ji Dong, Account Director at China Mobile International UK, discussed how Asia-Europe connectivity and robust cloud infrastructure benefit businesses operating in Luxembourg and beyond.

Mr. Edouad Cornu, Account Director at CAP4LAB, provided an overview of cloud integration services and practical ICT solutions for companies of all sizes. In this special occasion, Mr. David Angrisano, Country Manager in China at CAP4LAB also had the pleasure to greet our guests.

Rounding off the presentations, Mrs. Sylvie Leick, Partner in Personal Tax at BDO, offered expert advice on managing personal tax obligations in Luxembourg, with a special focus on rental income — a topic of keen interest for expatriates and local investors alike.

During the Q&A session, moderated by Mrs. Tian Jingya, Vice-President of CHINALUX, attendees engaged actively with the speakers, asking thoughtful questions and gaining further clarity on key issues.

The evening concluded with a lively cocktail reception, where guests enjoyed the opportunity to network with industry specialists, fellow expatriates, and locals in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Many appreciated the chance to exchange experiences, build connections, and feel more at home in Luxembourg’s vibrant community.
